John Houghtaling


John Houghtaling is a nationally known attorney and entrepreneur. He owns a law firm with a 46 year old legacy that paved the way to the $365 Billion U.S. tobacco settlement. During Houghtaling’s tenure his firm has collected settlements and verdicts of more than $4.8 billion. As an entrepreneur, he personally signed the largest trade deal between the US and China.

Academy Award winning director Morgan Spurlock filmed a CNN documentary profiling Houghtaling’s career as an attorney and entrepreneur which has appeared in more than 300 print and TV media stories including CNN, CBS Evening News, Fox Business News, the New York Times, Bloomberg, USA Today, MSNBC, The Guardian, & the Wallstreet Journal. One of Houghtaling’s business deals served as the basis for a Hollywood legal thriller, staring Anthony Hopkins, and Al Pacino in Houghtaling’s role.

On November 9, 2017 Houghtaling as CEO of American Ethane signed a $26 Billion dollar gas deal with China, in the presence of President Donald Trump and President Xi Jingling. Houghtaling’s deal was the largest binding deal of the US/China Trade Summit. Since that time Houghtaling has signed gas export deals to China in an amount that exceeds $72 Billion dollars.
